π A Mission of Love
For Nivia, quilting is more than a hobby or business. Itβs ministry. As she sews, she prays over the recipient β that they might feel peace, comfort, and joy. Her journey mirrors the same fulfillment she once felt watching a student sound out their first words, or read aloud for the first time. That same joy lives in every stitch.
Meet Nivia
mother, grandmother, lifelong educator, and now joyful quilter.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, Nivia spent over 30 years serving the children and families of New York City as a Family Worker, Teacher, NY State Mentor, Language Arts Curriculum Writer, and Assistant Principal. Her passion was always helping others grow β from teaching children to read, to mentoring new teachers in the art of education.
In retirement, Nivia has discovered a new way to share joy: quilting. Taught the basics of sewing by her mother at just 8 years old, Nivia rekindled that early spark by joining sewing guilds and learning from master quilters. She fell in love β not just with the art of quilting, but with its rich history and the sense of connection it brings.
Over the past ten years, Nivia has lovingly sewn more than 250 quilts β many given as gifts to those in need of warmth, encouragement, or a reminder that they are not alone. From restoring vintage fabrics to creating custom designs, every piece is made with care, purpose, and prayer.
